Meet Spot and Spec, the pint sized 6-month-old Australian cattle dog and pittie mixes. The are both male and have wonderful and loyal personalities!
Spot and Spec came to the Shelter together on 1/8/2026. A good Samaritan had been caring for them for a few months after they were left on her property with their mom. Unable to keep them long term – the good Sam took them to the vet and provided with their initial vaccinations before bringing them to the Shelter to find adoptive homes. At the Shelter, Spec and Spot were fairly nervous so we are fostering them at home where it is a bit quieter, and they work on their dog skills. We are looking for two separate adopters to adopt them (or together) and will need to fill out an application at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. Please call/email Jen or the shelter if you want to meet them.

Spot is a very observant boy and loves to listen to the world. He has a calm temperament and enjoys being part of the pack but not the leader. Spot is a super lovebug, curious, and a bit shy (compared to Spec), but loves people, loves toys, cuddling, and taking walks.” Spot is potty trained, leash trained, sleeps in a crate at night (with the door open), enjoys car rides, and loves to sit and play with his toys. He loves playdates and enjoys other dogs and their company. A canine play friend in the home may be a fit after a meet ‘n greet at the Shelter. Spot is slowing being introduced to the foster home cats”.

Spec is a total lovebug too and very fun, he is ready to play fetch and bring you the ball (and drop it). He loves balls and will guide the ball to keep the play going. He is a love and he is always ready to be by your side - play and cuddle. Spec is potty trained, sleeps all night in the crate (with the door open), and likes new people to visit and enjoys playdates with other dogs. They have met some friends who have come over to visit. Spec is a leader but respects other strong dogs and will make great friends. A canine play friend in the home may be a fit after a meet ‘n greet at the Shelter. Spec is slowing being introduced to the foster home cats.
